Dr. Raphael Mataka joined Ndi Moyo Palliative Care Trust as Chief Medical Officer who bringing valuable clinical and leadership experience as a medical doctor, medical director and in-charge of the facility. His experience caring for patients with acute, chronic and life-limiting illnesses has shaped his belief that healthcare is not only about treating disease, but also about relieving suffering, preserving dignity and supporting patients and their families. At Ndi Moyo, he is committed to strengthening compassionate, safe and evidence-based palliative care that treats every patient as a whole person.
Dr. Mataka’s vision is to see Ndi Moyo become a centre of excellence in compassionate, accessible and evidence-based palliative care in Malawi and beyond. He is committed to advancing clinical care, training, mentorship, research, advocacy and partnerships while promoting strong multidisciplinary teamwork. His guiding belief is simple: “Palliative care is not about giving up on life—it is about adding life, dignity and comfort to the time that a person has. Never tell a patient, ‘there is nothing we can do’.
Linly Chitete Chimbayo oversees the daily operations of the clinic, coordinating the multidisciplinary team to ensure patients and families receive safe, holistic and patient-centred palliative care. She helps ensure that care addresses the physical, psychosocial and spiritual needs of patients while aligning with Malawi’s palliative care standards and guidelines.
She chose Ndi Moyo Palliative Care Trust because of the satisfaction she finds in providing holistic care that helps patients and families cope with life-limiting illnesses and find meaning throughout their journey. She is motivated by the meaningful relationships she builds with patients and families and the difference her work makes in improving their quality of life.
Her vision is to reach more patients with high quality, individualised palliative care that relieves pain, promotes comfort and restores dignity, while supporting patients and families as they navigate difficult treatment decisions and care choices.
Cosmas is a passionate and committed Communications, Fundraising and Partnerships Manager, responsible for leading internal and external communications, organisational visibility, resource mobilisation and strategic partnerships that support the expansion of access to free palliative care.
He is deeply committed to ensuring that patients and families living with life-limiting illnesses receive compassionate, dignified and holistic care. Driven by a strong sense of purpose, Cosmas works to strengthen Ndi Moyo’s services, expand its reach to more patients and mobilise the resources and partnerships needed to ensure that no patient is left to die with severe pain simply because they cannot afford it.
Dominic is a passionate palliative care professional committed to improving the quality of care and support provided to patients and their families. He chose to work with Ndi Moyo because of his strong passion for palliative care and the organisation’s commitment to compassionate, quality patient care.
He is motivated by the support of Ndi Moyo’s founders and management, as well as the testimonies of patients who have experienced the impact of quality palliative care. His professional vision is to strengthen his expertise in palliative and oncology nursing and contribute to building a stronger, more skilled workforce capable of providing holistic care to patients with life-limiting illnesses.
Martin is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting budgeting and reporting, monitoring expenditure and ensuring strong financial controls and accountability. Through careful management of resources, the role helps ensure that every contribution is used efficiently to support patient care.
He is inspired by the impact of Ndi Moyo’s work and the importance of compassionate care for people with life-limiting illnesses, He is committed to promoting transparency, accountability and financial sustainability. The vision is to strengthen Ndi Moyo’s financial foundation so the organisation can continue reaching more patients and providing quality, free palliative care.
