How hearing a man die in agony gave Lucy Finch a mission – from this…
|
![]() |
In March 1998, nurse Lucy Finch had visited her native Malawi to care for her sister who was dying of Aids, when hearing a young man’s agonising death made her decide to come back and set up Malawi’s first and only hospice. |
… to this! Fast forward to 2020 Salima, Malawi where Ndi Moyo is now a centre of excellence in the provision of palliative care in Africa!
|

However, all this has only been made possible by donations over the years … but the work still continues and Ndi Moyo remains a charity supported entirely by the generosity of donors from around the world …
Lucy Finch also featured on the BBC’s 100 Women of 2016, which names 100 influential and inspirational women around the world every year. Read and listen to her story here :

DOUBLE your donation to NDI MOYO
Ndi Moyo is a unique centre of palliative care excellence which provides pain relief and holistic care to the chronically sick and terminally ill people suffering from HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life limiting illnesses in Malawi. Most palliative care in Malawi is only available in three central hospitals, which are 350 km apart. The majority of families live on less than 1$ a day and cannot afford the transport to these hospitals.
Ndi Moyo is a charity funded entirely by donations.
Just £10 goes a LONG way and will make a HUGE difference.

Delivering service, building the community |
As the year draws to an end at Ndi Moyo we have a time of reflection, celebrating the lives of those that have departed from us and creating time to unwind for our patients celebrating their milestones.
The events are marked over two days : Remembrance Day in December and the New Year party in January. This for Ndi Moyo is a way of sharing the good & bad times with the community.

For the New Year party, we provide 25kg of maize and other food items to carry our patients through the month of January, as it is a lean month on the Malawian food & crop calendar.
To enable us provide the food aid, we are counting on your support through donations. With 13 US Dollars or 9 GB Pounds you can help us buy a 50 kilograms bag of maize to assist the patients with food. |
